Mr. Jim Cathey
James Cathey is the senior vice president of Qualcomm’s businesses in Asia Pacific and India. In this role, Cathey is responsible for leading all business and operations functions for Qualcomm in these regions.
Prior to his current role, Cathey was president of Qualcomm’s operations in Japan. Before that, he was country manager in Taiwan where he was responsible for leading the Qualcomm MEMS Technologies (QMT) organization in Taiwan as well as sales and business development functions in the region. Cathey led all global business development activities for QMT, to include product management, applications engineering, technical product marketing, and marketing communications.
Most recently, Cathey was responsible for overseeing the process of restructuring QMT in order to transition from its current technology to the licensing of its next generation IMOD (interferometric modulator) display technology and to focus on wearable devices.
Prior to joining QMT, Cathey served as a senior executive at Micron Technology and MicroDisplay, as well as the head of Investor Relations for PixTech. He also has provided strategic business consulting services to companies such as DuPont Display, DuPont PhotoMask and Applied Materials.
Cathey holds seven patents and is a member of the Society for Information Display (SID) and sits on the Advisory Board for Startup Labs Taiwan. Cathey earned a bachelor’s of business administration in marketing from Boise State University.
