Biography

Sudeepto (@SudeeptoRoy5) leads the engineering group within Qualcomm Technology Licensing division’s Technology and Product Management team, formed to facilitate technology transfer to Qualcomm’s patent licensees. As a 24 year veteran of Qualcomm and the wireless industry, Sudeepto has pivotal experience in leading engineering and product planning teams to design and launch several generations of phones, tablets, networking, IoT, and infrastructure products, at all major designers, including Apple, Motorola, Blackberry, Samsung, Google, top China brands and several others, while simultaneously enabling the industry’s major technology shifts from 2G, 3G, 4G and very shortly, 5G. As a customer project engineer, he has led iconic device launches including first multimode Blackberry, first Android, first CDMA/Multimode/LTE enabled iPhone and iPad, first integrated Motorola LTE Android devices including the Droid, X, and G families. He created Qualcomm’s ASIC software customer engineering organization early in his career at Qualcomm, and grew it from scratch to a 1000+ strong worldwide team spread across North America, Europe and Asia. As a member of Qualcomm’s executive engineering management, he was instrumental in starting Qualcomm’s Hyderabad, Rome and Ottawa engineering centers. During 2015-2016, he led Qualcomm’s chipset roadmap planning team, for the 2017-2018 smartphone product cycles. In QTL, Sudeepto is nurturing startups and new patent portfolio licensees launch innovative products in emerging markets. He is also an engineering executive advocate in explaining Qualcomm’s industry leading R&D and licensing business model to key opinion leaders worldwide, to ensure a broader appreciation of Qualcomm’s pioneering systems level innovations. Sudeepto holds a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Engineering and has completed an Engineering management program at Caltech. He is currently undertaking an Intellectual Property Law Certificate program at University of California, San Diego.
